Towing Issues: Towing a car with another car (350z), nissan 350z roadster, acura tl

Question
Hello:
I would like to do a one time tow across the US.  I have a 2005
Nissan 350z Roadster Convertible with cosmetic damage
including the rear bumper cover.  I would like to remove the rear
bumper cover myself (and possibly the whole bumper) and
mount a tow hitch (may need to use a welding shop to fabricate
something).  I then want to use the 350z (3.5 Liter, V6,287HP) to
pull a tow dolly with my other car (weighs 3400lbs.).  The other
car is an 06 Acura TL that has the front left wheel turned in
slightly from an accident-hence the need for the tow dolly which
I already own and have near where the cars are.
The 350z has a tiptronic automatic 5 speed transmission that
can be shifted manually.
If the tow hitch I install can handle the weight and it is
installed properly will it be feasible for the 350z Roadster to tow
the car from New York to Los Angeles as a one time trip?
(Baught both cars in PA and want to get them to LA)  I fly for free
and will be visiting friends in New York anyway.  So if I can make
this work it will be much better financially than having both cars
shipped back to my home in LA.
Thanks,
Chris

Answer
While my expertise is not in the towing hitchs and all that, I have a problem with people wanting to modify the vehicle to install a tow hitch.

I understand that its hit in the rear and you have to get both of them back to LA.   Now first of all the tow dolly has to weight about 400 pounds or so.

The Nissan curb weight is 3212 pounds and the Acura curb weight is 3483 pounds.
Driving back across the country is not easy when towing vehicles due to heat and the wear and tear of the additional weight.
Hills, winds all make for more work on the vehicle not to mention brakes being used on down hill slopes.

I checked the Nissan web site and all the specs I could find did not list a towing capacity for the vehicle.

Personally I would check into the shipping of the vehicles back as it might look cheaper to drive and tow it in the short term but no ideas of what real problems could happen in the long term.

FYI there is a website which does have some vehicles for backhauls which I check from time to time for work calls,  here is the link it might be a bit more helpful than commercial shipping the vehicles back.
