Towing Issues: Towing a car behind a motorhome, matchbox cars, safety chains

Question
Winnebago class A, Jeep Liberty toad.
Has anyone considered attaching the two legs of the tow bar to the bumper of the motorhome and then using a front mounted hitch on the towed vehicle ? This allows the tow bar to be swung up behind the motorhome an locked when not in use and the front of the towed vehicle to only have one cutout in the front of the jeep. Safety chains in the normal position, etc. Any reason why it would not work ?

Answer
Bill,
I think I understand what you would like to do, however I'm not sure why.

The vast majority of tow bars these days are motorhome mounted, so they will stow on the back of the motorhome when not in use.  Also, the Jeep Liberty does not require any cutting of the front bumper as there are pre-existing openings that are used for the towbar pull-tabs.

On the topic at hand.... short answer; no, it won't work.
The towbar is designed to pull the far corner of the car around a corner to force the front wheels to turn.  If you connect the other end of the towbar to the motorhome, the swing of the motorhome would force the front end of the car the wrong way (into the next lane).  If it didn't torque the front receiver off it's mounts in the process.

If you want to try it, I suggest using matchbox cars and toothpicks before you put it on public roads.
