Chevrolet Repair: 4.3L TBI Blow-Up, check fuel, gas filter

Question
My 93 silverado has a 4.3 v6 TBI 5sp manual. Some idiot thought it was a good idea to spray starting fluid in it because it woulnd't start. So it caught on fire and the idiot didn't really react, sucked into the engine and blew out that valve covers (Haha, they were domed when he was done with it) The timing was off and to start it it had to be turned 36' Now I have timed it, changed the valve covers, checked the distributor for excessive play, didn't move. When I drive it it lacks power, it's sooooo slow! and lifeless! When it's cold it runs better with more power. Rings? when it's cold the rings expand and I get more equal pressure?? please help!!! I don't know whats wrong.

Answer
Hi Amy:

I cannot comment on the condition of your engine mechanically. If your engine is mechanically sound...good compression, timing chain not jumped, distributor timed correctly...I would make sure both injectors are spraying a good cone of fuel. Also make sure the gas filter is not clogged. Check fuel pressure, should be at least 13 psi.

Hope this helps,
Robert
