Towing Issues: towing a S-10 pick-up truck 2x4, haul trucks, rear wheel drive

Question
2003 S-10 rear wheel drive automatic can it be towed
2003 S-10 rear wheel standard shift can it be towed

2003 Mazda pick-up same as a ranger rear wheel drive automatic can it be towed

I just retired and I can't sit around so I got a
job transporting light trucks like Budget and U haul trucks to the dealer and I need a vehicle to tow behind the new vehicle so I can come back and get another do you know a good small vehicle for that - a small pick-up Thank You

Answer
First things first,

The S-10, as far as I can find, would need the driveshaft disconnected whether the standard or automatic (either with a wrench everytime or with a driveshaft coupling).

The Mazda/Ranger is not towable as-is with the automatic.  It too would need a driveshaft disconnect coupling.  The standard on the other hand can be towed four wheels down at up to 55MPH  for an unlimited distance.

However, that being said, you may want to consider something lighter if you are going to be towing behind smaller U-Haul trucks.  All of these trucks have base curb weights over 3,000lbs.  The laws in many states may prohibit this type of towing or, at the least, require a braking system on the towed vehicle.

Best of luck,
