Towing Issues: SUV towing pickup, nissan xterra, dodge pickup

Question
Can my 2003 Nissan XTERRA tow my Dodge Pickup 1500 RWD with tow bar and all four wheels on the ground?  (I will disconnect driveshaft from axle).

Answer
well,  aahhhh  this one is going to be a bit of a problem to answer..

First of all your curb weight on the Nissan is anywhere from 3900  to 4200 pounds.

The dodge ( you did not mention year ) is a bit heavier, ( 1998 to 2005 ) curb weight is 6700 pounds.

Now that is almost 2 times the weight of your Nissan..  And the tow capacity is 5000 pounds for the nissan..

Pulling the driveline is great to prevent possible damage to the transmission.

BUT I would recomment against towing the dodge with the Nissan.. You would simply be out classed and pushed around when trying to turn or brake.

You did not mention how far you are going to they and tow the vehicle. But for example if you moved from Maine to California you would most likely burn up the transmisson on the Nissan if not even ruin the engine ...  Major hills and stuff would create a major safety concern also..

Maybe for a very short distance around town ( unless you are in like Denver, Seattle or San Franscio )

I hope this helps,  sorry its not the answer I think you were looking for ...
