Towing Issues: towing a 4x4 with all four wheels on the road, four wheels, t break

Question
Hello. We have a 95 Chevy K-1500, 5.0L, 5 spd. man. trans. We are moving from New York to Kansas
next month and the only way we have to tow our truck is with all wheels on the road. Could you please tell me the correct procedure for this so I don't break anything. Thanks for your help.
Craig

Answer
well this is going to be a bit extreme but to prevent any kind of damage to your unit, the best way is to trailer it.
But there are a few other ways to do this.  Now the GM towing manuals say that the drivewheels can be on the ground and towed for a specificed distance of 35 miles at 50 MPH..
But that also is for a unit which has no known problems in the transmission and is also right off the factory floor..

Best method to tow the unit (take it you are going to use a towbar / drawbar method) is for the driveshafts to be removed from the front and the rear ends.  Now if you just unbolt them and tie them up be aware that there are a few small parts (UJOINT caps ) that can fall off  or the stuff you are using to tie it up with can break and cause the driveline to fall and cause damage or even not be there when you get to the destination.

I hope this helps you with your question.
