Towing Issues: 99 gmc jimmy towing capacity, electric cooling fan, gmc jimmy

Question
I have a 99 GMC Jimmy, 4.3 liter v6. I am looking at buying a travel trailer that weighs between 3,800 and 4,400 lbs. I think my towing capacity is around 5,500 lbs. Do you think my car will be able to tow this camper without any problems? I think it has a towing package from the manufacturer, but not sure. Thank you for your answer.

Answer
Ok   a GMC Jimmy is the small (baby) blazer style.  What I show for it is a curb weight of 3800 pounds, and a gross weight of 4800 pounds.
now the specs show a towing capacity of 5000 pounds.

So that says you should be able to do it.  But you also got to consider where you are going to be towing the trailer..

Up and down mountain passes will be harder on the vehicles engine (UP ) and brakes (down)
Now the specs show that a tow / haul button is an option on your vehicle.  I do not know however if you really have it.

So lets say you have the button.  One thing I would be concerned with is the transmisson.  The extra strain of towng the trailer will cause the transmission to work harder and the fluid to get warmer.  I would recommend a transmisson cooler to help your vehicle. Also the extra load will cause the engine to work harder. Now some of the Blazers / Jimmys had a secondary electric cooling fan assembly. If yours does not it would not be bad to have added to the truck.

Take care of it and get all the fluids changed before you go on trips. And try not to do big runs with it. By that I mean  no 1000 mile days in the hot of summer. That might be a problem.

But for towing the trailer to the local campground or a couple hundred miles you SHOULD BE OK. But that is just my guess..

No cut and dry answer for this  one really..
But I hope it helped ...
