Answer
Your best chance at winning a claim against a tow company for damages is the following:

Take the vehicle to a reputable mechanic or dealership.  Have them do a diagnostic check of the problem and give you an estimate in writing. OR Have the problem repaired and retain your receipts.

Next, make a claim for damages to the tow company by writing a letter requesting repair cost to be reimbursed. Supply copies of the repair bill or estimate in your letter.

Wait for a response.  If you get no response within a reasonable time or a response denying responsibility, then you have to file a small claim lawsuit.

Keep copies of everything. Tow receipt from the day it was towed, estimates, repair bills, etc.  This will help your case in court.

Also, you can go to a local AAA tow station or the AAA Admin office and ask for documentation on the proper technique for towing your particular model vehicle.

If the technique used by the tow company is not the proper technique, it can help your case. Hopefully on your tow receipt the driver marked the tow technique i.e. front tow, rear tow, transmission linkage remove and replace (R&R) etc.

Good Luck,
