Towing Issues: towing problem, toyota rav 4, interior molding

Question
I have a 96 toyota rav 4 (2wd).  I added a trailer hitch to my car, and today i bought a universal wiring kit from napa.  When I went to install it tonight, I can not find the wires that i need to splice(hook) the wiring kit up to.  Any suggestions on the location of the main wires?

Answer
Casey,  I'm not an expert in wiring. However, I did install a tow hitch on my Dodge Durango along with a trailer plug. The first wiring kit I bought came from NAPA and it was a universal kit.  I found it very hard to figure out; instructions vague.  So I went to my dealership and spent a little more on a kit specific to my vehicle model.

You might check with Toyota and find out if they have a tow wiring harness specific to your model.  With my wiring kit all the hook-ups were with prefab plugs.  No cutting of wires.  No getting wires crossed. It was very easy.

If your vehicle's wiring is like mine, you have to pull the entire left side tailight fixture out of the body to expose the main wiring harness.  Sometimes they will also run it inside the interior molding near the cargo area.

Let me know how it goes.
