Toyota Repair: 1996 Toyota T100

Question
My husband went out to start our 1996 Toyota T100 (206K miles, manual transmission) in the morning, and it would not start.  He replaced the battery.  Problem persists.  When you turn the key in the ignition, there is a grinding/clicking coming from, what sounds like from the inside and outside, the passenger side dashboard.  When he hits the starter solenoid, the truck starts.  Any thoughts?

Answer
Hello, this is typically a starter issue, when hitting the solenoid with a metal object it frees up a stuck solenoid plunger and makes contact then lets the starter engage, my recommendation is to replace the starter, they are usually sold with the solenoid as one unit.
