Toyota Repair: 1995 Toyota MR2

Question
I have owned this MR2 since 1997. It has 282,000 miles all driven by me. I have a problem, the brake lights won't go off unless fuse is removed. Then I also noticed cruise control won't engage and door locks won't work. (don't know if fuse being out caused this). This was my full time only vehicle until two weeks ago I finally purchased another car and now this. I would like to get this fixed but only want to put limited funds into it as I now have a car payment. Is this something a local gas station mechanic in my area could attempt this. I usually have the Toyota dealership do all the heavy lifting work, but now have a budget to consider. The car overall has had very few problems. Thank you for giving me advise.

Answer
Hello, the reason the brake lights don't go  off is probably a bad brake light switch, this is located on the brake pedal arm under the dash, you should be able to see it with a electrical connector with 4 wires on it. The cruise control will also not work as long as the lights stay on, the fuse out leaves an open circuit so it may affect the door locks as well.
