Toyota Repair: Fuel Pump Relay, 1995 geo prizm, geo prizm

Question
Hello Ted,
My car is a 1995 Geo Prizm, 1.8 L 4 cyl with 2200000 miles. I was told it has a Toyota engine and I can't find a Geo expert on this site. Hopefully you can help.
The car just died one day while driving. It seems the fuel pump is bad, it can not be heard when the ignition is on. Someone at the parts store told me to check the relay on it first but no one can find it. Can you tell me where it is located on this car?
Thank you very much

Answer
Hi, the fuel pump is not supposed to run with just the key on, it will run when cranking the engine then after the engine is running the pump is kept running by the circuit opening relay, the first thing to do is to verify if the pump is working, locate the diagnostic check connector under the hood, open the cover and connect a short jumper wire beween terminals B+ and FP, turn the key on, by doing this both the EFI and the C/O relay are bypassed and the engine should start if the pump is good. Do this test and get back to me and we'll go from there, do yopu have a voltmeter or 12 volt test light to do a couple of voltage tests?
I will be on vacation from tuesday until friday so try get back to me today I will check my emails all day.
