Windsheild post on driver side fills with water after heavy rain fall. The highlander does have sunroof.

A common problem is that the sunroof drain tube has come off under the headliner and leaks inside, another common problem is that the tube is clogged on that side and doesn't let the excess water drain out so it runs out of the channel and inside but in your case given how you describe the area where it leaks it's most likely that the drain tube is off. I can be inspected and fixed by dropping the headliner down on the left and reconnecting the drain hose to the sunroof frame then securing it with a small hose clamp.
