Toyota Repair: Toyota Carolla with P0441 and p0446 code, negative battery cable, toyota carolla

Question
My engine light is on with code p0441 and p0446.
Merchanice wants me to replace canister and cost me $500
Any thoughts?

I would first try to replace the gas cap and clear the diagnsotic code by disconnecting the negative battery cable for about a minute, I don't know what has already been tried or how the mechanic arrived at this conclusion so I would start there, I would also inspect under the hood for any cisconnected evap system hoses at the air filter but I'm sure he already did this so there is a good chance that his diagnosis is correct but these codes can also be set by a leaking gas cap that is not holding pressure from the tank.
