Toyota Repair: Toyota Camry 1989 issue, toyota camry, distributor cap

Question
Dear Ted,

I recently bought a 1989 Camry 4 speed automatic with 340,000km on the clock the engine appears to have been well maintained. It runs fine as long as I stay on flat or low gradient roads but as soon as its confronted with a hill it looses power splutters and sometimes stalls completely, if this happens I generally restart the car reverse down the hill and find a flater route which can be a real pain.
I have flushed and replaced the transition fluid with Castrol dexeron III but the problem still occurs I've been told it could be a number of things the most common two being either a messed up transmission or problems in the fuel line. Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance Richard.
