Toyota Repair: speed sensor, vehicle speed sensor, speedometer cable

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1995 T-100.The check engine light is on.The code comes up speed sensor. My tuck doesn't have a sensor on the transmission tail shaft.I read there is one behind the dash cluster.Or would it be a wheel sensor.I think the code was 0500.

ANSWER: Somewhere around that time toyota changed from a speedo cable to a vehicle speed sensor, check under the truck to see if it has a cable coming from the left side of the transmission, if not it will have a sensor wirh an electrical connector on it. If it has the cable then the cable is either hanging up at times, which would show on the speedometer by the needle jumping or the dpeed sensor in the speedometer is malfunctioning, if it should have the speed sensor replace it first.

QUESTION: The speedometer cable connects to the transmission on the right and there is no speed sensor. The passenger side.Is there a speed sensor behind the gauge cluster? The speedo doesn,t jump or move at all.How do you check the ohms with a multimeter? The tach works,And the truck runs awesome.

Answer
There is a speed sensor built into the speedometer which sends a speed signal to the computer, it may have detected a momentary intrruption of the signal, since the truck seems to run normally I would just clear the code at this time by disconnecting the battery for about a minute and then see if the light comes back.
