Toyota Repair: 92 4runner automatic locking hubs, automatic locking hubs, vacuum hoses

Question
QUESTION: I have a 92 4runner, 4cyl 265000km manual with v6 transfer case. Question: the automatic hubs are not locking and the light on dash does not come on, it seemed to take a long time to lock and light to come on in the fall then it was parked for 3months and now they will not lock when driving, is it a simple fix or a major overhaul?

ANSWER: Most problems with not going into 4x4(no indicator light) are caused by a malfunction of the actuator on the front differential, thye hubs don't actually lock, front wheel drive is engaged inside at the differential which the locks the axles to the differential. The most common causes are, vacuum hoses disconnected on the actuator or the solenoid on the inside right front fender, clogged up ports on the actuator or a ruptured diaphragm in the actuator.

QUESTION: Could you pin point where on the front diff do I find the actuator and or hoses, what does the solenoid look like? I think it may be a vacume hose because that may explain why it failed emmisions test.
Thank you for your first respones I hope I'll be able to fix the problem myself!

Answer
Remove the lower metal engine rock shield, you will see the actuator attached to the differential, follow the two hoses up to the top of the inner fender, you will see a few vacuum switching valves. Make sure those hoses are connected to one of the valves.
