Toyota Repair: stalling/low idling, toyota celica gt, toyota celica

Question
Hello,

I have a 2000 Toyota Celica GT with 210000 kms. For the 14 months the car has been idling low when I come to red lights. About two months ago, it began stalling sometimes when use reverse. When I turn it back on, it's usually fine until I make a turn.  Then it hesitates for about 3 seconds, then goes. This is just recent but has happened twice. When I get in the car and don't have to reverse, I try driving but the car sputters while moving forward like it wants to stall so I take my foot off the gas and then it starts rolling fine. I should also mention that I have owned the car for 8.5 years and have driven with the O/D button until the last few days. Just wanted to see if this would make a difference. It has made a difference in the stalling and stuttering at lights and when in reverse, so has improved the problem. However, I am looking to sell it soon and feel selling it to someone in this shape would be unethical as it could pose a safety issue. Thanks for your help!!

Answer
Most of these stalling type of problems are due to a throttle body that has a lot of varbon deposits on the inside, the first thing I would recommend doing is to clean it using a nylon brush and a can of spray air intake cleaner, available at the autoparts store, and replace the air filter, this usually restores the idle to normal, by the way, the battery should be disconnected while doing this, after that drive the car normally for about fifteen minutes and the idle should go back to normal.
