Toyota Repair: 1994 camry misfire, tensioner pulley, toyota camry

Question
Hi Ted, I bought a 1994 toyota camry LE 4 cylinder back in november. I replaced the water pump, timing belt (with all the new parts idler, tensioner, etc) spark plugs. It ran great for about a month and then all of a sudden crapped out on me. It seems to idle fine with a slight misfire, but when I put it into gear it bogs down considerably. I have a couple of thoughts on this 1- bad ignition coil 2- timing belt slipped a couple of notches I did not think the way toyota has you adjust the tensioner was the best way .Correct me if I am am wrong. Torque the tensioner down and then back it it off slightly. It seems to me that this would loosen up the belt when it started to break in ,maybe causing it to slip a tooth or two. I really dont want to have to rip the front end of the engine apart again if I dont have to. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Greg

Answer
It is possible that the belt slipped, you can check the timing marks by just removing the top part of the cover, I always make sure there is no slack on the side of the belt opposite the tensioner, then releas the spring, apply additional pressure to the tensioner pulley and tighten it then start the engine with the cover still off and recheck the belt tightness.
