Toyota Repair: 89 toyota truck 3.0 v6, new distributor cap, air leak

QUESTION: I put a new distributor cap and rotor on. I took the truck for 5 min. spin and it drove ok. I let it sit for a week and try to start. It would start and run for 5 seconds and stop. Turn key on again would start and run 5 seconds.That's all it would keep on doing.

ANSWER: Check for an air leak in the hoses between the air filter and the throttle body, they have a tendency to crack.

QUESTION: I got the truck running but it runs rough until the engine warms up and then it runs fine. I tried it again the next day and it did the same thing.

These engines are prone to headgasket problems, I would recommend that you have it tested for this, it's a simple chemical test that most repair shops can do or you can do it yourself by buying the inexpensive kit from an autoparts supplier then follow the instructions that come with it.
