Toyota Repair: 1985 4runner motor running bad, fuel pressure regulator, intake leak

Question
I have a 1985 4Runner with the 22RE. When I start the motor it idles fine, but as soon as I start to drive in feels and smells like it starts to flood and then it dies. It will do this several times and then it starts to run without stalling. When i say it runs without dying, it still smells of fuel, and is very sluggish. For example, I could have it floored on the freeway and never go above 60 MPH. It runs at normal temperatures, but doesn't seem to ever get up in RPM'S.

I am new to the 22re, and Toyota's in general. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
Gregg

Answer
It's obvious the engine is getting too much fuel, could be caused by a leaking injector or the cold start injector or the fuel pressure regulator, it could also be caused by a vacuum intake leak or a clogged exhaust system. Those are some of the things that should be checked.
