Toyota Repair: Input Senors and actuators, zero emission vehicle, 2007 toyota camry

Question
QUESTION: I bought a 2007 Toyota Camry from a dealer and then later found out that the engine was from a 2005 Camry. I am in a dispute with the dealer.  My wife and I are concerned that the different car years and different component manufacturers are likely to cause compatibility problems between the engine and the other DbW components.  Like putting processors and drives on a newer computer from an older one, we expect that problems can be expected.

Are the sensors, ECU and output actuators all compatible between 2005 engines and a 2007 ECU?

ANSWER: Both year models used the same engines, either the 4cyl 2AZ-FE or the V-6-1MZ/3MZ-FE, The two
V-6 engines are not interchangeable but the 4 cyl engines are the same between the two year models, the only concern that comes to mind is that there were two different versions of emission control system, is it a 4cyl or V-6 engine? In either case check under the hood label and let me know the engine designation and also if it says PZEV on it or look for a sticker on the driver's side that says PZEV, if it's a V-6 this won't make any difference.

QUESTION: Thank you Ted...

I checked the sticker on the 2007 chassis and it reads "Level II, ULEV" instead of "PZEV".  I researched your tips and learned that "PZEV" stands for "Partial Zero Emission Vehicle", and "ULEV" stands for "Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle".  I do not know what the 2005 engine designation is unless its stated in the vin number 4T1BE32K15U549597.

Do you know if the 15-year 150,000 miles emission warranty is invalidated by the illicit engine swap?  Is this warranty a CA State emission mandate for 2007 Camrys?

Answer
The way to tell which engine you have is to look at the exhaust manifold, the PZEV engine has no heat shield and the A/f sensor sits on top of the manifold, all others have a metal heat shield on the manifold so if yours has a heat shield it's the correct engine and will comply to smog requirements. The federal emission warranty is normally 8yrs/80,000 miles in CA, for major components which includes the cat converter.
Both '05 and '07 use the same basic engine, the only difference is in the emission control system.
