Toyota Repair: 98 Toyota avalon XLS Loss of power (Deceleration) on a highway after almost 2hrs driving., toyota avalon xls, mechanic friend

Question
Hi Ted; I have 98 Toyota avalon now it has around 225,000 mileage. I bought this car more 4 years ago and at that time the mileage was at 135,000 and was driving fine since then. When my car check engine light came on like 2 years ago I took the car to a mechanic who is friend of mine. He scanned it and told me that code PO402 and code P1410 were read from the vehicle and he suggested I should replace the EGR valve. I went to a toyota dealership and got EGR valve and I had my mechanic friend install it. After he installed it he reset the codes. I drove the car for a while it was fine but after few months the check engine light came right back on. Since the car was driving OK I kept riding it with the CEL on until my car had a misfiring and I took to a Firestone they checked and scanned it and told me that I have to change spark plugs and wires too also they said I have to replace EGR valve position sensor because of the code PO402 that was read on a scanner. I took the car to my mechanic and he fixed the misfiring but he did not replace EGR position sensor so the CEL was still on. Recently, I went out of town and I drove for almost 7 hours with the CEL on until I got to my destination and the car did not have any driveability problem. But while I was on my way back maybe 4 hours away from home on a highway driving around 65 MPH my car suddenly started to decelerate and have a jerky movements I tried to depress an accelerator trying to speed up but the car would not catch up finally I pulled over on a highway. I opened up the hood and checked the engine oil and transmission fluid level and coolant all were OK. I waited for 15 minutes and started the engine and drove for about 2 miles until I got into a gas station and fill up the tank. After that it drove OK and I jumped back into a highway for almost 2 hours and then the same problem of deceleration while on a highway happened again and I had to pull over and wait for a while. After waiting for a few moment and because it was already dark I decided to drive to a Motel to rest the car so that it cools off overnight. Next morning again I drove back to the highway for almost same time (2hours) until I got into a deceleration. After that I felt better if I drive for about 45 minutes then I take a rest to let the car cool down to avoid anymore mid highway breakdowns. I did that until I got home safely. I took the car to a mechanic and scanned it. Codes PO402, PO420(bank1) and P1410 were retrieved. My self I went and buy EGR position sensor and installed it and reset the codes. Now, I have driven the car locally for about over 1000 miles and CEL has not returned. My question does this problem has to do with transmission started going bad when the car is driven for a bit longer and when it is very hot? Or will it have to be with the catalytic converter went bad also, or O2 sensor bank1 need replaced? I wanted to try to change bank1 O2 sensor first. Locally the car drives just fine. But now I am scared to go out of town on a trip of 2 hours or so. Your evaluation and suggestions are highly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Both the codes P0402 and the 1410 are related to the EGR position sensor, they have nothing to do with transmission operation. The driveability issue may be a loss of fuel pressure, there is no external fuel filter on this model, the only thing I could suggest, since this seems to be intermittent is to try and replace the fuel pump.
