Toyota Repair: 2000 Toyota 2.2 L Camry, piston slap, engine piston

Question
Have knocking noise.Changed lower rod bearings. No help. Could it be piston slap, wrist pin on cylinder,or warped head. How to diagnois problem.Pete R

Answer
It could be any of those except a warped head. See where the noise is originating from, use a piece of plastic tubing placed to the ear to trace the source area, in any case any noise like this is a serious problem with the engine. Piston noise will usually be louder when the engine is cold. A deep knocking noise is normally associated with the crankshaft the higher up on the engine the higher pitch the noise, for example a camshaft/lifter noise would be a much higher pitch than a con rod bearing.
