How do you gauge the proper tension on the serpentine belt?

They make gauges for checking the tension; there are different scales used - therefore different types of gauge measurements.
I try to twist the belt when it is taut.  Find the longest section of belt between pulleys, you should be able to twist it only about a 1/4 turn, but you should be able to twist it some. If you can't twist it, it is too tight; if you can twist it more than 1/4 turn, it is too loose.
