Toyota Repair: Front Wheel Bearings, front wheel bearings, toyota celica gt

Question
I have a 93 Toyota Celica GT 2.2 liter and just found out that my front wheel bearings are going out. I am just wandering if I need to have a shop do the work or if there are any shortcuts that I may take to save me a little money.  I like things simple just because I have a short fuse when it comes to getting frustrated with things.  Is there a way I can get a step by step or a way I can take part of the assembly apart and take it to the shop, also what price range am I looking at.  Les Shwab gave me a quote of 500 dollars and that included the brakes, and alignment

Answer
Yes you can save yourself some money, first of all it's not necessary to do an alignment after replacing the wheel bearing unless you have tire wear issues. Removing the bearing requires a hydraulic press but you can remove the steering knuckle with the hub and then take it to the dealer and have them replace the bearing but let me caution you that some special tools are required to get the steering knuckle off , so unless you have the tools already and are willing to spend about 4hours to do this I would recommend having a shop do it but not do the alignment. If you'd like to have some more information and illustration on how to remove the steering knuckle/hub assembly I can email it to you but I would need an email address in a follow up from you.
