Toyota Repair: 1996 TOYOTA 4RUNNER GHOST CLUTCH, toyota 4runner, clutch problems

Question
Hi Ted,
I have a 1996 Toyota 4Runner 5 speed manual. I have been having clutch problems as of late. This is the 3rd clutch it has had as it has 185,000 miles on it. Lately it has become hard to shift, as in get into and out of gear. Sometimes if it sits overnight it gets worse. I bled the lines and amazingly it worked like new for about a month. Now after sitting for 3 days without driving, it has become impossible to get into gear and jumps when you go to start it like the clutch isn't pushed in at all. Can you give me some insight into what this might be? The Master or slave cylinders? That would be my guess since it comes and goes and gets worse from sitting. STRANGE!

Thanks a million in advance,
JTW

Answer
It sounds like there is a hydraulic leak or the master cylinder is leaking internally. Check the clutch flex hose on the right side firewall these often leak, iif it's not leaking check the master cylinder on the inside of the firewall it normally leaks out the back and ceck the slave cylinder as well.
