Toyota Repair: toyota rav4 door ajar light on and doors locking and unlocking on their own, toyota rav4, rear hatch

Question
hi.  a few months ago my car started locking and unlocking on it's own. i checked the fuses and they were fine. i ended up just taking the fuse out and manually locking and unlocking my car. now, the door ajar light is staying on when all doors are closed and locked. even when the car is in motion. don't know what else to check.

Answer
Each door has a switch to turn the dome lights and the door ajar light on, including the rear hatch door. One of these switches can cause this by being open. Try to find out which switch is causing the problem. Whatever fuse you checked and removed put it back in. With all doors closed and the light on the dash on go around and push hard against each door near the door handle and see if the light goes out noting which door causes the light to go out, this is the switch that's causing the problem.Remove this switch and with all other doors closed ground the electrical connector to the body and see if the door ajar light turns off, if so replace this switch. Let me know whather or not this helps, I have seen many times that this is simply caused by a swtch that's just not making good contact with the door, the plunger in the switch is just not getting pushed in enough to complete the circuit.
