Toyota Repair: 95 toyota tercel dx 4 door, toyota tercel, water leaks

Question
QUESTION: I have a 95 toyota tercel with about 175,000 miles on it and it's automatic transmission. Recently we thought it had been overheating so my dad found it had a water leak, we fixed that. It now has an oil leak and he is going to replace the oil pan. Now recently it started acting up then had problems starting and now won't start at all. The temperature gauge says its on high, but it's not overheating at all and there is no water leaks. The temperature gauge stays up even when I turn off the car and the fan turns on as well when I turn off the car.
My dad thought it might be the battery, but it works because the lights and radio turn on.
The car sounds like it wants to turn over, but just isn't.
It's acting really weird, but I'm not sure what the problem is. Could you please help me? Thank you.

ANSWER: The engine does not crank over is this correct? Or does it crank but not fire up, please be specific.

QUESTION: It does crank over, but it just doesn't fire up.

Answer
Ok, if it cranks over then the battery must be in good shape, can you check for spark to the spark plugs for me? Also, when the engine is cranking does it sound like it's spinning over faster than usual? For now disconnect the fan at the radiator electrical connector to keep it from running, we'll deal with that after the engine runs again.
