Question
roommate has a 1997 toyota camry and he went jump the battery off of another car and put the cables on the wrong sides and the battery caught on firefor just a second and then we took action..after that i put new cables and a new battery in... the cars lights and all will go on but wont start or go into gear. we have checked the inside fuses but cant figure out what the problem is...; can you give any suggestions?????

Answer
Check the fuses under the hood, locate the fuse box near the battery and open the cover, the fuses are marked inside the cover, find the 100Amp alternator fuse, it's bigger than the rest of the fuses and has a clear cover on it, if it's blown it needs to be replaced, the fuse doesn't just pull out like the others, it's bolted on inside the fuse box so the box will have to be removed and opened from the bottom to get to the bolts. After replacing it check all the other fuses under the hood as well.
