Auto Insurance Claims: Claim change Premium, insurance company, insurance

Question
I borrowed a friend's vehicle with their permission while they were out of the country.  Damage worth approximately $1500 was caused to the vehicle.  We have the same insurance company.  If the claim goes under their policy (in keeping with the vehicle) will it cause their premium to go up?  If yes, Are there other options to keep their premium from changing?

Answer
Hi Tisha,

I'm sorry about the incident. Unfortunately, your question and the facts are not clear, but I will do my best.

You state that the vehicle was damaged, but you did not say who was at fault.  If there was another vehicle involved and it was their fault, then you should place a claim with the at-fault drivers insurance company.  Then your friends premium will not be affected.

If you were at fault for the damage to your friends car, then the only way to not affect his/her policy would be if you paid for the damage yourself without making any claim against your friends policy.

I hope this helps
