Toyota Repair: 88 3.0 oil pan removal & oil pump, main bearings, oil pump

Question
I have a 88 3.0 4WD P/U w/234,000 miles and I need to replace the oil pan.. and I figure I may as well replace the oil pump while I'm in there... I looked up under.. and it appears either I lift the motor ( lots O work) or drop the Differential .. what do you suggest?  And is the oil pump easy to access once the pan is off?

Answer
The oil pump can be accessed by removing the timing cover, there is no easy way to remove the oil pan, I used to have a 1990 4 runner and had to replace the rod and main bearings and opted to remove the engine rather than remove the differential and working underneath with all the oil dripping on me constantly so either way it's a lot of work.
