Toyota Repair: 1999 Toyota Avalon, charcoal canister, toyota avalon

Question
QUESTION: The Traction Control Off warning light has come on in my Avalon. I have tried pushing the dash button but no change. What could be the cause?. This started about 3 weeks ago after I went through a section of road that had about an inch of water on it. Also the check engine light came on at the same time. I took it to Advance Auto to pull the codes. The check engine light message was for "Evaporative emissions system fault". I was told this could be nothing but a loose gas cap. Had the error reset and bought new cap. Light came on a few days later again and then the "Trac Off" light came on again.

ANSWER: Have the codes read again and then let me know what they are, I need only the code numbers ie:
P0 446 etc. The TRAC light normally turns on becuase of the check engine light.

QUESTION: THanks for answering so quickly Ted. I had the codes read and the number is PO446. That is the only one.

ANSWER: Toyota had issued a technical service bulletin, TSB-EG004-99, it applies to this VIN# range
4T1BF1#B*XU286982-4T1BF1#B*XU307913, check to see if your VIN falls within that range of numbers, count backwards eight digits from the right. It calls for replacement of a vacuum valve and some hoses, here is the part number- 25852–20010. These components are located on the charcoal canister in the rear underneath the car.

QUESTION: I checked the VIN# of my car. It falls outside the range of the numbers the tech bulletin covers. But I will check this out on my car. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Your'e welcome, check for any disconnected hoses at the air filter and also at the rear at the charcoal canister, the 446 code usually is a large leak at the evap system, I know you replaced the gas cap already but some aftermarket caps may still cause the light to come on, maybe try a OEM cap from the dealer.
