Toyota Repair: 1997 Toyota 4 Runner LTD. 6 cyl, 2 WD, toyota 4 runner, toyota 4runner

When I start my 97 Toyota 4Runner LTD (2 WD,6 cylinder),140K miles, initially it hesitates to move in Drive gear, and sometimes it slitghtly jerks on giving gas and moves. Recently noticed multiple times.What could be the problem? Please advice..

Check the transmision fluid level first, check it at idle with the engine at operating temperature, add fluid as needed and check for a leak at the transmission, check the condition of the fluid, if it smells burned or looks dark there may be a transmission malfunction beginning.
