Toyota Repair: 2002 Toyota Camry, air fuel ratio, 2002 toyota camry

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2002 Toyota Camry.  The check engine light came on today.  I have just had the 100,000 miles maintaince done on this car two weeks ago at a Toyota dealership.  They said everything on the car looked great.  I haven't had the timer belt replaced yet.  Could this be the issue?
Thanks,
Suzi

ANSWER: The timing belt won't turn the check engine light on unless the engine is tunning real bad, it should be replaced every 90,000 miles or 6yrs. The reason the check engine light is on is because the computer has detected a failure of one of the many input sensors on the engine, this could be due to an emission control component or an engine performance issue. Did the dealer retreive the trouble codes? Their computer should be connected to your car to read the diagnostic trouble codes, don't let them replace anything until they do so, if you know the trouble codes (DTCs)let me know, if not please find out what they are and let me know. There are some auto parts chain stores that will read the codes at no charge, autozone, kragen etc. try to locate one and ask if they can check the codes for you, or go back to the dealer but they shouldn't charge you anything just to read the codes, after you have the codes on a printout you can get back to me and I can help with this more.

QUESTION: I did go to Advance Auto and they read the code.  The code that came up was P1135.  What does this code mean?  What do you suggest that I tell the dealership to check?
Thanks,
Suzi

Answer
Toyota had issued a service bulletin for the V-6 engine for this code: EG014-03: 02 Camry: M.I.L. "ON" DTC P1130, P1135, P1150 or P1155, if your's is not the V-6 let me know, tell the dealer to look up this service bulletin, it involves replacing the air/fuel ratio sensor on cylinder bank #1 which the one near the firewall.
