Toyota Repair: Flashing O\D light on 1999 Toyota liteace, d light, scantool

My 1999 Toyota liteace Touring 4WD SR50 O\D light flashes. It comes and goes flashing for a while then stops and starts again. What does it means and how can I cure this issue.

First you will need to find out what the trouble codes are in the onboard computer, this is done by connecting a diagnostic scantool to read the trouble codes, once the codes are retreived you can post a follow up and let me know what they are and I can be of more help.
