Toyota Repair: Key difficult to enter into the ignition and then once in difficult to turn, key cylinder, toyota 4 runner

I have a 2001 Toyota 4 Runner which I bought from a used car lot. The vehicle has about 82,000 miles. I am having a difficult time getting the key in the ignition and then getting the key to turn in the ignition. I only have one key, is this a repair I can make myself or do I need to call a locksmith or take it to a toyota dealer?

Does the key work ok in the doors? If not then have a new key made at the toyota dealer using the vin#,if the problem is only in the ignition then the key cylinder would have to be replaced and rekeyed to work in the ignition as well as the door locks, either the dealer or locksmith should be able to do this.
