Toyota Repair: 1999 4runner Fan speed control, fan speed control, 8mm socket

Question
The low speed setting does not work on the main dash fan control (a/c and heat).  Before I go taking things apart to fix or replace the speed control, do you know if the speed control is located at the switch in the dash; or is it attached down on the main fan housing, like my 85 Toyota van is.

Answer
I would bet a considerable amount of money that your problem is not with the switch. The problem is the blower motor that's located under the passenger side dash. It takes an 8mm socket to remove the bolts that hold it. Over time, as you drive your car daily and park it in public and private parking lots...or even at home, no matter how much we try to avoid it, we still have to park under trees and shrubs from time to time. When we do, the leaves, dirt and matter get lodged into the blower motor which causes it to become faulty. The only way to fix your problem is to replace the blower motor.
