Toyota Repair: 2002 land cruiser VSC lights, emission control system, accelerator pedal

Question
Ted,
Someone by the name of Kelly ask this question a couple weeks back.  It was
not specifically addressed by Andrew.  I have the exact same question.
Thanks Mark

The check engine light has come on as well as the VSC Off and VSC trac
lights.  I lost acceleration power on my way home this evening and had to
coast the last mile.  This is infrequent, but when it occurs, the car will idle
fine, but the accelerator pedal has no effect at all

Answer
The ECM has put the system in what's called "limp home mode" when this happens the computer will only allow about 20% throttle opening, there is a malfunction with the engine control system or the emission control system, the first thing that should be done is to connect a diagnostic scantool to the onboard computer to retreive the trouble codes, in most cases the check engine light is the root cause and should be addressed first, the VSC/TRAC is disabled anytime that there is a check engine light, the lights turn on to let the driver know that the systems are disabled due to an engine control malfunction and there is probably nothing wrong with those systems and the lights will clear once the check engine light cause is fixed.Let me know if more help is needed after code retreival.
