Toyota Repair: 1988 Toyota Cressida, toyota cressida, oil stains

Question
QUESTION: Hello

I have a 1988 Toyota Cressida with 236000km on the clock.

Just recently I have notices small oil stains on the driveway where I park the car.

I have looked underneath and can see oil is collecting on the bell housing behind the rear main seal in front of the auto transmission pan.

I have wiped it clean and it usually takes a few days to collect again.

Where could this be coming from as it does not appear to be from the main rear seal but coming from the top of the bell housing down and collecting underneath then dropping down to the driveway.

What gaskets can be leaking from the back of the engine?

Any ideas welcomed:)

ANSWER: The most likely cause would be leaking valve cover gaskets, to be more specific I would need to know what engine it has, is it the 4ME or the 5M-GE engine?

QUESTION: It is the 7mge as I have an 10/88 model Cressida.

Answer
It's very common for the valve cover gaskets to leak, especially into the center between the two cam shaft/valve covers, remove the number six spark plug connector to see if it has oil on it, if it does replace the valve cover gaskets as well as the spark plugs and the wires.
