Toyota Repair: 1990 toyota 4 wheel dr. axle removal, drive axles, axle bearings

Question
Hi, I'm trying to remove the front drive axles. The bearings on the inside of the spindles are worn causing a vibration when the hubs are locked in. You can feel the play when you grab the boot on the wheel side of the axle. It moves a good amount. I have the hub removed on one side and  the 6 nuts from the inner flange. problem is the bolts won't back out ( must be pressed in) so I can't drop that end of the shaft far enough to clear the differential flange. The shaft also seems to hit the steering knuckle . Is there a trick to getting these axles out? Also, if I get the axle out, will I be able to replace the inner bearing that the outer axles/spline rotates inside of? I have the shock removed, have tried cranking the steering wheel all ways, jacking the weight on and off of the steering knuckle. Thank you, john

Answer
Those bolts are studs which are pressed in and don't need to be removed to get the axle out, normally disconnecting the shock will let the suspension arem drop down enough to pull the axle out after the bearing hub is pulled off the outer end of the axle and moved out of the way. The axle bearings can be replaced without using a press, the bearing races can be removed with a hammer and a drift punch.
