Toyota Repair: 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser, toyota land cruiser, diagnostic check

Question
Hello, I have just put about $2000 into my Land Cruiser because I love it and
until recently it's been an extremely reliable car.  However, it's been in the
shop more than I've had it this past month.  I just got it back Tuesday after
having the starter replaced and now the check engine light has come on as
well as the VSC Off and VSC trac lights.  I lost acceleration power on my way
home this evening and had to coast the last mile.  This sounds like another
expensive repair to me.  Any thoughts on what it might be before I take it
into the shop.  We're new to the area and didn't have any recommendations
on a good repair shop.  I'd like to have some sense that I'm getting good
service and that the repair might be worth it rather than just investing in a
new car.  Thank you so much for your time.

Answer
There are a number of things that can cause failed acceleration. Obviously, no fuel and overheating can cause loss of power. Electrical problems like a bad battery can cause this as well. In regard to your engine light that is illuminated, the only way to diagnose this is to have a technician plug a scanner into the diagnostic check connector to read the codes. Check some of the local shops to see if they will read the codes for free.
