Toyota Repair: 97 Tercel problem, freeway 75, tps sensor

Question
Please help! 97 Tercel sometimes after driving fast on the freeway (75-80mph+) for extended period of time then getting off and stopping, the car will act like it wants to cut out then will idle back to normal. Why does it do this? I get regular maintenance like oil change, filter, spark plugs and it doesn't happen every time but only does it after high rate of speed.

Answer
Kris,
Sounds like it could be the TPS sensor acting up or dirty or maybe
the intake needs cleaning. Could be the speed sensor too. Is the engine light on? Both of these sensors can be checked with an ohm-meter by a technician. Check it while stopped and in park, bring the rpm's up to the same as 75 to 80 miles an hour (probably 3500 to 4000 rpm).
