Toyota Repair: 2002 RAV4 ECU, malfunctioning brakes, toyota service

Question
I just got my right clutch replaced two weeks ago but when I was driving today my brakes felt like it was stuck and the engine light came on. At this time I just went to a local mechanic. I didn't want to drive with malfunctioning brakes. There I had to replace the master cylinder and was told that the engine sign was lit because of the catalytic converter. I just came after replacing the master cylinder but I don't know what to do about the converter.  I'm not a rough driver and 85% of driving is done on a highway with no accidents.  It's a 2002 model with 83,000 mileage but until now I've never had an issue with this car.  Although not at the toyota service center I always kept up with maintaining it.  I'm wondering if all these events are occuring because of the ECU programming issue that the RAV4's are having and if it is how much should that cost? And what other parts should I get checked out if that is the issue? I hate going to the mechanics by myself because it seems like I'm getting ripped off or ignored but it seems like I'd have to make the trip by myself this time so I would like to be prepared.

Answer
Without knowing the diagnostic trouble codes that are stored in the computer I can't be very specific with my answer, yes there is a "recall" to reprogram the ECM if the code is related to a catalityc converter malfunction, it's actually a special service campaign(SSC 60I) there is no mileage or time limit on this so contact the toyota dealer to get this fixed at no charge.
