Toyota Repair: Hard starting, air flow meter, timing pulley

Question
QUESTION: 88 toyota P/U 22RE 90,000mi. If it sits for a few days it will start immediately. If it's only been turned off 5 or 10 min. it starts quick, if it sits 30 min. to 8 hrs. it cranks and cranks and cranks before it starts. sometimes I smell a little fuel. It's got new air filter, new dist. cap and rotor, good wires, timing is 5 btdc, also no cat convertor.

ANSWER: The process of tracing electrical circuits and elimination is the way to solve starting problems once the starting circuit is ruled out. Start with Spark, fuel delivery/pressure and go from there. Your air flow meter is the device that actuates the fuel pump during cranking. When you checked the ignition timing, did you bypass the ECU before you shot the light on the timing pulley?

Fred,

First, don't waste my time if you're going to be negative. Second, I was/am as polite as can be to total strangers who don't appreciate FREE advice about your broken down heap of a car over the internet. It's clear that you have never been a technician of any kind. If you had, you would know that a diagnosis cannot always come over a typed conversation. DO NOT waste my time again! My help should be set aside for individuals with appreciation for my time.

You might not want to use the restroom today, your brain might come out with your waste.

QUESTION: I didn't ask for a diagnosis, I asked for an intelligent idea of what I might look for, I guess I asked the person. What is clear is you don't have a clue what your talking about, so get your head out of clouds. I was to kind when I rated you.

Answer
Dear Sir,

If every technician like me had the guts to stand up to idiot customers like yourself, we would no longer have mechanics that take advantage of their customers by selling parts & services to people that are not needed as a way of revenge for your asinine attitude.

The joke is on you pal.
