Toyota Repair: removal of front passenger shoulder seatbelt, toyota camry, release button

Question
QUESTION: My dog chewed in half the shoulder strap to the front passenger seatbelt. It retracts just fine, but is very annoying having a portion of the belt dangling on your face. I would like to take off the remains. How do I go about this?

ANSWER: You didn't mention what type of vehicle this is. You will need to replace the entire seat belt unit.

QUESTION: OOPS,sorry about that. It is a 90 Toyota Camry DX. Can just the belt be unhooked from the retracting part?

Answer
Inside the unit is a spring loaded pulley that rewinds the seat belt after the release button is pushed. I would not recommend any attempt to replace just the belt...that's assuming that you would even be able to order just the belt alone or even find one in a junk yard. It would be best and less headache to replace the entire unit.
