Toyota Repair: replacement fuel gauge, toyota 4 runner, diesel version

Question
My husband & I moved to Managua, Nicaragua 4 months ago to serve as missionaries. We bought a 1999 diesel Toyota 4-Runner SE Limited 3.0 Turbo D which has 101489 kilometers on it.  We have been pleased with the overall performance of the vehicle.  Just recently our fuel gauge quit working and seems to be stuck on 1/2 tank.  Our mechanic said that it would take 2-3 months to get the part in and we would have to put down a $100 deposit for him to order it...he thought it would be best if we could obtain the part ourselves.  We have a friend who will be going to the States the first week of September and will be there for 2 weeks.  Could you please tell us the name and possible part number for the part we need?  Also, do you know where she might be able to find this part in the Tallahassee, Florida area?  Thank you for any help you can give us.
Sincerely,
Lynne Curtis

Answer
What you probably need is the fuel sending gauge which is located inside the gas tank, the diesel version of the vehicle was not sold in the US so I doubt if a toyota dealer in Florida is able to get this part for you. Try to contact a dealer in South America online for the availability of this part and arrange for shipping directly to you.
