QuestionHi, I have a 2000 Toyota Corolla. A month ago, all of a sudden, I found out that when I was driving the car began to rattle and give some noise. The noise appeared to be coming from the front/under-the-bonnet of the car. After studying it for several times, I realized that the car does not rattle/vibrate/cause noise if a). When I accelerate in reverse gear b). When I keep the acceleration at constant speed above 40 MPH
Till I accelerate beyond 40 MPH, my car continues to experience the rattling noise. Once the car goes beyond that, i.e. when the gear shifts, the noise/rattle decreases a lot.
I took the car to mechanics. The first one said that the noise is coming from the inside of the motor. The second one said that the noise is coming because the motor mounts are broken. The second mechanic told me that the mounts are broken in such a way that when the car goes forward, they hit the belt/chain. The second mechanic in his report asked me to replace the following a). the front motor mount(s) b). the rear motor mount c) Remove & replace engine or transaxle mount front and rear. They are charging me heaftily and I am unsure what to do. Please assist.

How many miles on the vehicle?
Do you mean a rattle or vibration? If there is a problem with
the front of the engine motor mount, which is on top at the right
fender the car will vibrate at idle. The other motor mounts
don't go bad unless the car has been in an accident!
What are these mechanics smoking? I could find the issue if I was
at the car and drove it but that not possible, so I need specific
exact information. First, does it rattle when the car is in park and
you rev the engine up and down? Is it a 3 speed or 4 speed auto or
a 5 speed stick? This could even be a body panel or bumper cover
rattle. You need to go to a Toyota dealership and have a good mechanic, (not the service rep) check it out and drive it.
