Toyota Repair: 1979 toyota charging problem, battery cables, battery terminals

Question
I replaced the alternator twice.  i put in brand new voltage regulator.  i replaced the positive side of the battery cables, but my charging system is not charging my battery.  only my charge light will stay on all the time.  i can go 6-8 months on a brand new battery before i can charge it with an outside charger.  any suggestions on what to try next???

Answer
Check the voltage between the two battery terminals with the engine running, it should be at least 13.8 volts, if not then locate and check the alternator fuse under the hood, if the fuse is good the alternator is not working and needs to be replaced.
