I have a 1995 Toyota Tercel.  The A/C compressor does not engage when the switch is on.  The internal blower works, but I do not hear the compressor engage in the engine compartment as in the past, nor does the fan turn.  What is the troubleshooting process (the A/C compressor worked last year)? Thank You.

The most common cause is that there is not enough freon in the system, the first step would be to get pressure readings from the system using a/c pressure gauges. You could also go to an autoparts store and get a freon recharge kit and follow the instructions that come with it, even if all the freon has leaked out adding a can should make the compressor turn on and work until it leaks out again.
